White Water Rafting for E.O.T.C.

           White Water Rafting

¨I can't wait to go on the raft! I yelled.

On Wednesday last week senior school students in group 1 went to Vector Wero Whitewater Rafting in Manukau.  We went on a bus for about 20 mins and when we arrived we saw this little waterfall thing and we saw ginormous gates to the rafting area.  We lined up by this lady named Mikaela.

First Mikaela took us to this theatre to watch a history and safety video. We sat on these plastic seats and there was a  little tv. The first video showed us how Maui got a giant fish but it was New Zealand. The second included how to stay safe, safety gear and how to float if you fall out.  After the video finished we got changed into our togs and put our bags in these yellow bins.

First we got our aqua boots. Next we got our life jackets and lastly we got our helmet and paddle.  The instructors split us into groups of 6 or 7. My instructor was named Anthony. We hopped into a raft and practiced how to get down if we bump into a wall.
Finally we jumped in the raft and paddled to the conveyor belt that leads us to the Tamaki river I was so scared! The first rapid was giant!! The rushing water splashed on my face.  We went on the rapids about three more times then we started jumping into the rapids. The first time I jumped in by myself, the second time Amy and I went together. We were holding hands and when you hop in your nose and toes have to be up.

Eventually it was time to dry off and get dressed when we finished I wanted to do it all over again, I can’t wait to go next time.
